Is it worth the extra cost to buy a tanning lotion? Can you really tan any faster by using it?
The answer to these questions is unmistakably yes. Tanning Lotions provide three basic functions during the tanning process.
They make you tan faster, they make your tan last longer, they let you achieve your tanning results with less tanning, and just as important, they allow your skin to age less during the tanning progress by putting moisture back into your skin. And today's tanning products are getting more and more technically advanced and sophisticated to promote healthy skin.
Accelerating the Production of Pigment.
Your body is designed to be in the sun, just as mankind has been for millions of years. When your skin is exposed to UV light, a pigment is produced called Melanin, which rises to the surface of the skin, darkens, and protects your skin against sunburn. The more pigment you have, the darker your skin can get. The fairer your skin is, the less pigment your body naturally produces. Tanning Lotions accelerates the body's production of Melanin, allowing you to tan quicker and easier.
Moisturize Your Skin.
Moist skin always tans better than dry skin, which is something to remember whether you are in the sun or a tanning bed. Also, moisturizing your skin can extend your tan. Tans fade and are lost through the natural flaking of the outer layers of your skin. As your dry skin flakes away, so does your tan. Moisturizing your skin prolongs and extends the length of your tan.
Exposure to UV light also dries out your skin which can lead to wrinkles and the "leather look". Lotions apply moisture back into your skin, which is not only healthier, but can also slow down the aging process which is sometimes associated with excessive tanning.
Lotions provide your skin with vitamins and minerals. The next time you pick up a bottle of good Tanning Lotion, check out the ingredients label on the back of the bottle. You will be amazed at the amount of ingredients and the technology involved in producing some of today's top lotions. Vitamins A, C, & E, Zinc, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Vitatan 2000, Energizer Complex, Wheat Protein, just to name a few. Lotion companies more than ever are investing time and money to produce hi-tech formulas that are the most beneficial to your skin and the tanning process.
Good for any level tanner, accelerators add to your body's natural production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin tanning. Most tanning lotions sold today include some sort of accelerators, although some are more powerful than others.
For a more immediate tan, Bronzers supplement a tan with a light self-tanner that delivers color in 2-4 hours after application. Bronzers should be applied with an even, circular motion prior to tanning, and vary dramatically in shades from two or three bronzers, to over fifty.
Products with a "Tingle" factor contain ingredients such as Niacin that open blood vessels in your skin resulting in increased blood flow. This blood flow increase accelerates the tanning process, and speeds up the skin's natural growth and maintenance process. The warmth and reddening sensation involved with this process is similar to the feeling one gets after exercise, when once again, your blood flow is increased. This tingle factor intensity can be purchased in lotions anywhere from a mild 2 or 4 factor, to those over 40 and above, which produce a more dramatic sensation. This feeling is temporary, and lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours.
